Gingerbread Men Treats

Ingredients:
2 cups (500ml) whole wheat flour ¼ cup (60ml) dark molasses
1 tsp (5ml) baking soda ¼ cup (60ml) water
1 tsp (5ml) cinnamon 1 large egg
½ tsp (2ml) ground ginger 2 tbsp (30ml) canola or olive oil

1.Preheat oven to 350 F

2.In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and ginger. In a small bowl, whisk together the molasses, water, egg and oil. Add the dry ingredients and stir just until you have a soft dough.

3.On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out about ¼-inch thick. Cut into gingerbread men or any other shape you like with a cookie cutter, glass rim or knife. Transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet.

4.Bake for 12-15 minutes, until firm. Let them cool on the cookie sheet, or turn the oven off and leaven them inside for several hours to harden as they cool.

Makes about 30 cookies. Store in a tightly covered container.

Don’t give your pet too many (1 or 2 a day is good). Even though they are safe for your pet, large amounts of any treat can cause stomach upset, not to mention weight gain.
